DN3D sound effects are crackly when the mixer rate is set to 44 kHz. Only DMAs 0, 1, and 3 are selectable. The default drivers loaded by windows are all that's needed to run the card in windows. Alas, under DOS I was never able to get anything but monophonic wave voice sound. The control labelled "FM" in alsamixer adjusts the volume of both synths, but FM is intrinsically louder. Right now I'm at a point that synth will die at random and then I have to add a lan card, install drivers in windows, reboot, then remove the lan card and sound will work for a while until it dies again It always pushes an unknown ds1868f instead of the zip file that I asked for.

The vanilla drivers won't provide these. Some clone cards might support 16 MiB out of the box? There was a certain ESS card I tried and didn't like because it could only play a couple esss sounds at a time, or would play the first half of a sound and cut off the rest. Was this for some kind of proprietary Compaq bus?
